Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey is a very successful African-American Woman. She has donated so much to so many people who are in need. She did not have the best childhood, but was very intelligent. Oprah is a great inspiration to so many people.

Oprah was born on January 29, 1954. Her parents were only teenagers when she was born. They did not have a lot of money. Since they did not have much money she went to go live with her grandmother. With her grandmother she learned how to read and write. At the age of two she could already read. When she went to church with her grandmother she could read some bible stories. When she was six, she went back to live with her mother. Her mom had not been as encouraging has her grandmother had been.

Oprah did not have the best childhood. When she was 9, she was raped. Again at the age of 14, she was raped and molested. It had been done to her several times, by her cousin and uncle. When Oprah was 14, she had gotten pregnant, but the baby died when he was born. Like many teenagers, she ran away from home. Her mom got tired of her, and sent her to live with her dad. Her dad was very strict, but encouraging. When she was with her dad she was an honor student. Oprah was on her high school speech team. She had won an oratory, or speech contest which gave her a full scholarship to Tennessee University. Here she had studied communication.

Oprah had been the radio host for high school. Then in 1984, she hosted a half-hour talk show in the mornings. This lead to the Oprah Winfrey Show.

The Oprah Winfrey show started in 1986. Her show went from the lowest place in ratings, to the top. Now she is said to be the most successful female talk show host in America. Oprah had made a movie called the Color Purple. This was one of the reasons her show became so popular. Oprah’s show has celebrities and sometimes even regular people on it. The show also has discussion about people’s social issues and other issues. Oprah’s has the number one talk show, and it has been like that for 21 straight years.

The reason why I have picked Oprah for this project is because of what she does. She helps so many people who are in need. Oprah has so much money, and gives so much of it to other people. She gives it to people who go to her show also. Usually on every show, Oprah gives out something special. There was one show when everyone in the audience got a new car. People who have as much money as Oprah usually keep it for themselves. Oprah has helped so many people in Africa. She has given them homes, food, and places for them to go to school and learn. So many people have been helped by Oprah in a variety of ways. One is by her, another is being on her show, and also just by watching her show.

Oprah is a great inspiration to so many people. She has shown that it doesn’t matter who you are or what race you are, you should do what your heart desires you to do. Oprah is honored because of what she has done for others, but also all she has done for the people in Africa. Oprah does not only give money, but she gives help to others, and ideas for people to help them get what they need. Oprah is all about giving. To me she is one of the most successful women in history. All the things Oprah does for everyone is the reason why I am and so many other people are inspired by her.
